Imagine: Your god is chosen when you're dead.

Imagine this, when you're dead, the funeral procession that you engaged in will decide your final resting place. Meaning, if you're a devout taoist all the way but during your funeral, a christian procession is held for you, then you will meet Jesus Christ and God instead of the Taoist gods...

If that's the case, then there's no point in believing any current religion because only on your deathbed do you actually kind of know which religion you truly belong to.

In that case, when i die, I shall be burnt and my ashes shall be used to grow a new plant and place in a pot. Then I will meet Mother Nature and ask for her forgiveness on behalf of all the bad deeds done by humans and hope that gaia will be a better world for all.

Chapter 1 – The Sentinel Project
It started as a blog post which changed my life drastically. The one on how our government can utilize potential pervasive computing technologies to increase its influence on its people and monitor anyone right down to their daily activities. I was working in a DSTA (Defense Science & Technology Agency) department as a Defense Technologist then, before I made that post which seems interesting for me to blog about.

Two days after writing that post, my supervisor informed me that I was terminated due to the economic crisis at hand but I knew it had something to do with that article. Everyone always said that being in a civil servant job is like having a steel ricebowl, it won't break unless you knock it real hard. The post itself has attracted nearly five thousand comments in the first twenty four hours, many of whom expressed concerns about how our government might actually be implementing the system already. Surveillance cameras in car parks, lifts, lobbies and some even noted that there are plans for installation of these cameras at the common corridors in HDB flats. That viral article of mine soon became a hot debate among netizens of the blogging circle. Soon, the mainstream press caught hold of the story and I was given the chance to be interviewed and express my views on it.

So here I am, a thirty four single being interviewed first time in my life, on my political views, parents, occupations and many other weird personal questions such as my army vocation that I was in during National Service and whether I hated the current goverment or not. My instinct told me that somehow, the media is trying to portray me in a bad light. Page 2 of The Straits Times the next day prove my instinct right.

Royston Tan, No.1 Political Enemy?
Jamie Tan
Straits Times Correspondent

The man behind the widely debated issue on how our government may exploit technology to monitor us. Royston Tan. He blogged about the how the government can abuse potential pervasive computing technologies to monitor its citizens. A thirty-four year old single, Royston Tan is the first Singaporean to narrowly smear the reputation of our Government online and this may had happen because his parents died while he was 20-year old and serving National Service in BMT School 1. He served as a storeman in the 21st artillery division during the rest of his vocational period. While serving his National Service, his second girlfriend broke away with him and since then, he did not express intent to find another girlfriend or marry any other woman. Recently being fired from the DSTA, he had been working there as a Defense Technologist. His article may also served to express his hatred on DSTA and mislead the population in times of a economic crisis like this. In the article, he mentioned about the potential abuses that our government can execute and monitor us down to our daily lives. What he did not want his readers to know was that in fact, he had been in agony after losing his parents 14 years ago and now the trauma of losing his ricebowl because of the economic crisis. In short, he's the no.1 enemy of Singapore.

As I read the article, I realise the grave danger that I was in. They has just distorted the whole truth and mislead everyone into thinking that I am someone who is anti-government and trying to sabotage the Government in their next election. I can't believe my eyes. I was just made the no 1. political enemy of Singapore. Without a job, anyone to confide in and facing this public scrutiny, I did not know what to do next. I put aside the newspaper, sat down on my bed and stare into the blank space thinking what to do. Just then, a knock on the door came. I paced slowly towards the door as the knock became louder and more aggressive. As I'm about to open the door, it flung open and 2 plain-clothes guy rush in and point their Heckler & Koch USP pistols at me, "Internal Security Department. You are now under arrest for offenses committed under the Internal Security Act (CAP 143) and will immediately be placed under detention indefinitely until further investigations are carried out."

As I'm being dragged out helplessly but two plain-clothes officers, I overheard one of the officers speaking,"The Sentinel Project is now in place..."

Events of March / April 2009

Been a while since I blogged. Anyway, now i'm bloody free so I decided to write about what's happening in my life to everyone who visits this blog.

Recently spending most of my time with my lingling and worrying Imagine Cup's development. Both NUS & NTU send me their approval to my application so I'm deciding with the rest of the bunch of gay friends where I should go... National Service is not abolished in time so I have to go in anyway. Thinking which part of my body will break inside NS - Quote from Yuan Fa.

Next important upcoming event will be the Imagine cup presentation which worries me.. because I don't know what I need to do and most of the thing I don't know how to do. I'm dumb, that's why...

Apparently, I'm looking forward to graduation ceremony because I will be standing together with my other friends, Zackal, JM, Clement, Lionel, Benard, Kok Hien, Jun wei and many other people who are getting their Merit so must remind myself to take photo with them... (may worth a lot next time! =X)

Life is truly becoming alive with my lingling around.. better than finding relationship partners in maple i guess. Hohohohoho... like my younger brother who (primary 5) find some gay ass zhabor(dunnoe how old).... gg.

Graduation ceremony would not be complete without our celebration party that night so if SIT is not organising any shit, then anyone wanna join us for some wild party? Do tag me or drop me an email!!

Argh..now i go back to fret upon the chimified Imagine Cup Project. Sianz.

About Ice Creams.

First, I would like to clarify this. I blog this post because I somehow predict that my reply will be longer than 1 tag so I just blog it out you know with pics so that people know what I'm talking about.
Yesh, Haagen Dazs is nice but then in my & pq opinion, we think too sweet. So its 2 REAL human thoughts. But the ice-cream king has yet to verify his human identity with Auer Cloud Services so I still don't know whether is an ad bot or whether its a cat using the computer..

and to prove my point that a cat can use a computer...

Also, please do consider registering with Auer Cloud Services for a one-stop membership cum identity passport.

Anyway, in light of recent attacks of many other blogs, Eledonia has stepped up its analytic services. If you experience slowdown in visits, please do not freak out as our system will be scanning your ip. No personal information will be collected.

Ice Cream which is cheap and good.

People ask me what is called good ice cream. I had tasted Häagen-Dazs, Ice Kimo, Walls, Gelare,Bens & Jerry and many other kinds of ice cream.. In my opinion, I think Ice Kimo is not the sweetest but too blend. Häagen-Dazs is sweet strong and very nice but yet its too sweet to be a good ice cream. Bens & Jerry, well not too bad, nice and good but I think the best is Gelare. However, they are expensive. So here's this very great discount offered by my friend at only $10.80 because she's doing a marketing project. Original price is $12.80 so I would of course buy one to share with my honey pq... To couples, especially guys, do not miss out this chance to sweeten your gf and make yourself have a greater day!

I am sad.

Its not like I can do anything about it either.

Being poor and not able to go out.
Yes, its my fault to be poor because I can't find a job...
but do you have to do such a thing to humilitate me?
and to make me feel jealous?

I dun understand.

And its not that I don't want to go out.
Its that I don't wish to see that tragic scene that I experienced in my nightmare like so many times.
Every single night since 25th dec 2008.
That tragic scene, that i fear will come true today.

I dun understand

Why is it that you like to spike me?
Making me feel so irrational and low.
Sadded & Emotional
Like dying leaves in the autumn winter.
I dun understand

I thought you understand me.
I thought you knew I am the kind who would do anything for you if I ever can.
I thought you knew my current situation
and All I ever did was thought.

I dun understand

And my thought fail me.
It ran down like dripping waters into the dirty sewers.
I was a failed man.
Condemned to Eternal Depression

I dun understand

Tell me what I should do?
Do prevent this tragic situation.
The world around me falling apart.
No hope that can salvage me from this neverending fear.

National Service :: Really Necessary?

This is the note I written on my facebook profile.

Before we start, I hope you guys will really go and read this 2 article before reading my summary.
Link One Link Two
After reading these shocking facts of life that only native Singaporeans need to go for National Service, I can't help by sigh at the only so not pragmatic solution that they had came up with. Our government has always been a good one, providing a basic social net for the poor via CPF, providing compulsary primary education for all its citizens and getting its citizens to be independent of the government. However, the policy of Natinal service is something I can't totally agree with. (maybe because you can say I fear NS and stuff).

However, to those who wanted to think from that perspective, I can only offer you my explanation below or you can just ignore that and continue with your ignorant beliefs.
Had this been the era of the cold war before 1989, I would have said that such a policy will be very necessary. In those days, communism and conflict is very alive in the countries around Singapore. Thus, we need a strong, reliable and self-dependent kind of army that can provide Singapore with a native defense if such conflict arise in our Country. The Confrontation is a very good example of such events.

Back to 2009, in our modern lifestyle with the Internet, where everything is globalising and most countries are aware of the harmful effects that can be caused by War and educated / governed with International laws by the United Nations, do you think there will be a direct conflict to us? Yeah, if America thinks that we are harbouring some terrorist and decide to bomb us? Wait, don't forget that Obama is becoming the next president so at least we can be a little assured i think?

Anyhow, the new kind of threat we face is terrrorism, not an army of direct confrontation. So think about it, why are we sending our local man into 2 years of redundant service and give our job opportunities to the foreign workers that are coming in by the 10,000s every year since 2005. Moreover, these 2 years spent in redundacy prevented many Singaporean man from landing a good job and thus starting their career later -> causing many couples to give birth later -> and then that's why lesser children are born and birth rates decline with the aging population.

In the 60s, 70s & 80s, many of our fathers are not as educated and fortunate as we are now ( I wish to thank our government personally for implementing compulsory education for all Singaporeans, otherwise I would not be as educated to write this note now)and thus National Service seems like the only way to escape unemployment and such. Even now, there are many Singaporean teenagers out there, we call them ah bengs, where education don't really suits them and what they really need is discipline in the army and a safer ricebowl to their uncertain future. However, to the rest of us, educated man like you who is still reading what I'm writing, how can we really give up our personal future to an imaginary threat marketed extensively by the government? Do you really think that as of 2009, Singapore will be attacked directly? I don't think so.

Fundamental Ideas of Modern Terrorism are caused by conflicting ideologies(in this case religion). Instead of solving the root problem, everyone around the world decide to join America and fight the so-called "terrorism". What we actually have to do is sit down and find out why these guys are so willing to die and kill people. They are human too and so they will surely have a fear thus there must be a reason behind all of this nonsence but the whole idea is instead of spending funds educating our youth on the dangerous effects behind such ideologies / religion, our government spend it on defense budgets that doesn't really match the conflict style of the world today.

Now on to the social-economic problems apparently caused by National Service. As we know, more and more foreigners come into Singapore every year. You can see the bangla/china workers harassing Singaporean woman all around especially in the northern part of Singapore. As a Singporean man, can you live that 2 years in Pulau Tekong fearing that your beloved girlfriend, fiancee may get harassed by these guys on a certain unlucky day? In order to solve the declining population, our government thought that they can psycho foreign citizens into our country and get them to settle here. What a naive solution i think, why? Because look at the contrasting difference between our forefathers and the current immigrants trend. During our forefather's time, they had came to escape poverty & conflict in their countries. However, current immigrants came here because they can't find jobs in their respective overpopulated country. Do you really think their heart will stay here? Maybe when they earn enough, they will migrate to Canada, just like a china classmate of mine (come to think of it).

Instead of solving the declining birth rate, by lowering the legal marriage /sex age and educating youths on the importance of family creation while taking away that redundant National Service so that couples can get married and conceive early, our government decide to give baby bonus the older career woman who was taught from young to succeed in carrer before settling down.

This flaw in the education policy together with National Service may be the primary reason why we see Singapore having less birth rates. Many of us will think, "so poor, give birth so much for what?" Do we really need to? If every Singaporean couples has 2 kids from the age of 20 - 25 and without NS, we can start our careers early, there will be a steady flow of babies each year without us being poor thus solving such fundamentally simple yet made SO Complicated problem by the government.

Think about it. I have a proposed solution in mind but I'm not prepared to write it out because who knows later I get sued by some people or bombed by 'terrorists'!! Ha ha.. Have fun.

Post-note: I am no degree holder in human pscyhology or social sciences or stuff like that. I wrote this not to express my hatred to serve NS but as a food for thought on whether we really need such a policy to limit our rights and freedom that we have in this precious 1-time chance thing of life. If there's someone who is smart enough with enough authority and thinks that this is a wonderful note, do tell me for I will apperciate it. But to religious fanatics and/or macho/physically oriented guys who thinks I'm a weak sissy complaining about NS, please try to read again or go train your weights or pray to your imaginary creator to make me think I'm bullshiting. With that, I shall end this note and hope I can still see the daylight next morning.
